Description
MEET OUR MANAGERS
Hello, my name is Michael Lundie, most know me as Mick. I am 25 years old and have been working at State Swim for approximately 6 and a half years now, the first 5 years at State Swim Whitford City. I am the Assistant Operations Manager and Head Coach here at Osborne Park Swimming School. Up to the age of 15 years I was a mad keen swimmer but then moved on to Rugby Union, although I still spend plenty of time swimming at the beach or pool. I am recently married, it will be a year this Decemver. My favouriet food is Italian, I love pasta! Feel free to come and talk to me, I am usually around somewhere on the pool deck or the reception area. Bye!
BERNIE MULROY, ON COACHING
With Spring around the corner, now is a great time to be considering your child’s swimming requirements for the summer season. Over the past two months we have attempted to provide a slightly higher workload for our training squads, Team Bronze, Team Silver and Team Gold, in an effort to elicit a better physiological response i.e improve their fitness levels. With all the publicity surrounding lack of fitness in our youngsters, we see it as imperative that we challenge the swimmers sufficiently so that they will not only be better athletes but they will also be learning health skills which will stay with them for life.
While training once per week is better than no training, more frequent attendance certainly has greater benefits. Not only is the level of fitness enhanced but the skills will advance more quickly because the more regular practice will reinforce the learning.
For those who are more inclined toward the competitive side of swimming, we are incorporating more specific sets in training to help monitor progress in performance. To maximize the effectiveness of our training Teams, we will be incorporating some new criteria to facilitate movement upward from one squad to another, so that groups wil become more homogenous, thus enabling more appropriate work to be covered at each of the levels. These standards are not yet finalized and we will keep you all informed of progress in this area.
As you are aware each centre has a Head Coach and we encourage parents who need clarification on any aspect of our coaching program, to contact their relevant Head Coach to answer their queries.
Let us all work together to make the summer of 2008/2009 at Stateswim, the best ever.
Regards
Bernie Mulroy
