Agreement signed with Warmun Community
A significant agreement was signed in Warmun on 16 April 2008. The agreement will guide the management practices that assist the construction workforce to positively interact with local Aboriginal communities. Aspects of the agreement include access to traineeships and employment, protection of heritage sites, a ban on alcohol on community land and a commitment to ongoing communication. “Team Savannah is very pleased to have this agreement in place and believe that it is unique for a project of this size” said Brian Laurenson who signed the agreement on behalf of the Leadership Team at Team Savannah. “The development of this agreement provides compelling evidence of the benefit of investing in strong relationships with communities close to the project area” “There is no doubt that this agreement will deliver exceptional outcomes for the community and assist us to manage our operations in the most appropriate way” he said. TraineeshipsIn June Team Savannah interviewed seventeen young people from the local communities for a traineeship on the project. Eight trainees will gain a Certificate 2 in Civil Construction and two trainees will complete a Certificate 2 in Business Administration while working full time on the project. The successful applicants will be announced later this month.
