OSBORNE PARK - OCTOBER 2008

PARENT LETTER

This is a short email to praise the State Swim program and specifically the
staff at Canning Vale. Our son hated swimming before we came to
State Swim. He commenced lessons at the age of three at a leisure centre
with up to eight kids at a time in the group so in a half hour lesson his actual
participation time was around four minutes! The other 26 minutes were
usually spent crying, mucking about or waiting while the teacher told kids off.
We persisted for two years because swimming is a life skill and even though
he wasn't happy he had to learn to swim.

Some friends have a son who also had negative swimming experiences
so they took him to State Swim and told us about it. We decided to change
to State Swim even though the lessons were almost double the cost of
those at the leisure centre.

After one year of lessons out little fella is now a Marlin. The teachers at
Canning Vale are supportive and the continuity of teachers means that he
is able to develop a rapport with his instructors and trusts them in a way
he could never trust the multitude of teachers he had at the leisure centre.
He looks forward to each swimming day and even wears his
'budgie smugglers' because they help him swim better!

We happily absorb the extra cost because, in our experience, cheap
swimming lessons are a false economy. What did we get for our money?
A boy who cried and wouldn't put his head under water.
What do we have now? A swimmer!
