The Great Northern Highway Kimberley Project

Positive Cooperation with Warmun Community

Team Savannah and Traditional Owners in the Warmun Community have begun to build a strong working relationship based on mutual respect and co-operation. Rob Yates, Project Manager and Leigh Hardingham, Stakeholder and Community Manager visited the community to discuss how the project workforce would interact with the community. Community members who are interested in providing contract services to the project also discussed potential opportunities.

The Community and Team Savannah are developing a joint Memorandum of Understanding that will support the relationship and provide clear processes to follow during the project.

“We believe that the early engagement of the Warmun community is an important part of our planning and we are committed to working together to ensure that this project delivers additional community benefits” said Tony Petrusma, Project Director Team Savannah.

Trainees

Up to ten trainees will be employed during the construction stage of the project and Team Savannah has engaged the REACH Foundation  to assist in their identification and support.

REACH  operates as a coordinating/management group for trainees. They support regional community economic and youth development by addressing young people's emotional, social and educational needs and providing options for them to access training and employment.

Team Savannah and REACH will be visiting the project area in the next few weeks to identify interested people for positions offering Certificate II in Civil Construction and Office Administration

More information and expression of interest forms can be found on the  REACH Foundation website at  www.reachfoundation.com.au

Local Industry Involvement

  • Team Savannah is committed to providing opportunities for local industry to participate in the project. There has been a very good response to a call for expressions of interest from local contractors interested in working on the project.

Accommodation Camp Construction

  • Work will commence in late March on the construction of a temporary accommodation camp for workers. The location is central to the project area and will provide accommodation for 100 workers.  The camp will also house the project office.
