March 16, 2009 WHITFORD CITY - MARCH 2009
WELCOME
VICTORIAN BUSH FIRE APPEAL
Thank you to everyone who has got behind
the Victorian Bush Fire Appeal via State
Swim or other associations. We raised in
total $9221.20, it’s amazing what you can
achieve when the challenge is upon us,
well done to everyone involved.
$1215.20 was donated through our various
tins, ice cream containers and even an old ‘fireman’s’ helmet on the
receptions desks at each swimming school. State Swim itself, donated
the remaining $8006.
Funds raised will be used to provide assistance to individuals and
communities in towns and suburbs affected by the 2009 Victorian bushfires.
An independent panel made up of community leaders will oversee the
Appeal Funds operation.
Please note: Red Cross will not deduct any costs from public donations
to cover Appeal costs. All interest earned on donations will be invested
back into the Appeal.

The Cyber Swim was the highlight of the month with 81 kids swimming 240
events. For parents and family which attend time trails/Super Swim regularly it
was a little more hectic than normal especially for the coaches.
Looking briefly through the results there where some excellent improvement
includes a very fast 32.67 by Victor in 50 freestyle, a 47 for Jess Cook in
butterfly and Courtney McGrath taking off big times off all three strokes since
her last Super Swim.
Congratulations to Jen-Mei, for reaching personal achievements in receiving
medals, this takes a lot of commitment and training, well done.
The coaches identified areas that require improvement and you will notice a
more direct approach when it comes to breast stroke drills and all starts
and touches. Special mention to Chloe Metcalf, Jessica Boardman,
Ciara Moldrich, Sara Wallace, and other whom where promoted to Team Silver.
For a very important group of people, the timers, thanks to Livvy and Elle’s mum,
Melissa Dad, Amy dad, Keely’s mum, Allegra and Carla’s dad, Connor’s dad,
Dane and Kyle’s mum, Kathy’s dad, Olivia W’s mum, Christians and
Sarah’s mum, Harry T’s dad, Harry K’s dad – a big “thanks” from us in the c
oaching department. We would love for parents (if able) to volunteer to keep
times, as they walk through on Super Swim nights).
Subject of the month: Time Cards are a single card detailing a personal best
time for strokes following a Super Swim. Each PB adds up to medals and
trophies at 10, 20, 30 & 50. We have recorded all the kid's times and if parents
require or want to view them please ask the coach or Simon. They can be
picked up about a week after Super Swim from the front counter.
Thank you
Simon

Team Silver: Melissa Neal
(Mum & Dad's comments) “Thank you to ALL
Whitford City State Swim staff for all your
guidance & encouragement for our children”
Andy and Murray Neal
Team Gold: Robyn Santos
The Swimmer Of The Month for February 2009 goes to two hard working girls,
Robyn Santos, the captain of Whitfords City Swimming School at the carnival in
November 2008 and Melissa Neal. Both have excelled in recent times
achieving many personal bests at past Super Swims. Equally important is they
work hard at training, the coaches love this.
“They listen, have fun and train to the best of their ability” Simon said.
